Got my car detailed while I was at work...and by detailed I literally just mean washed and waxed. They washed in a bay and parked outside. When I got there, I see multiple spots on the front just crying for my attention.

Not sure if it will show up but lookie here:

Kinja'd!!!

This one is heart shaped. L for love!

4 of these on the front with tons of chips. Isolated to the front and I had not seen these on my car at all until today.

Oppo, thoughts? I’m fuckin’ pissed because there’s nothing they did that could have caused it (and I had the conversation with the two people who worked on it). The chips make me think that the clear coat just wore away and the wash just took any flakes with it. Then the wax sealed the deal. Bottom line, I need to repaint. My rear fender has a crack as well but I’ve been putting that off for months now because I didn’t want to pony up. Guess everything will happen sooner rather than later. This is why I miss my own driveway because I’ve never had anyone wash my car but me.

Kinja'd!!!

Potato pic of the whole thing.

Make it a rally car, cover it with mud, stop giving a fuck. My Z has the original paint and I haven’t repainted it because I like not caring. I wipe it down, never wash it with a hose.

It’s always the answer, life is so much better not worrying about some little water spot, live.

But seriously though, rock chips will happen again just as soon as you have a repaint done. Unless there is some financial reason for keeping it in absolute pristine condition (which there usually isn't) keep on rocking it the way it is. (unless you just need to, you know to be happy or whatever)

Chips I’m fine with but these are fuckin 2"circles that stand out against the rest of the car. Its painful.

Chips happen. These patches, though...

Your beautiful new car isn’t a new car anymore. It is now a USED CAR.

I know it hurts, but it’s true.

And this probably won’t be the last blemish your car receives.

Silver over rust, that’s how I roll. I wouldn’t worry about it if it were my car, but I tend to keep mine forever so I don’t worry about resale.

I had 3 large chips straight thru to the steel 4 days after buying my Chevy SS. War wounds.

Did they apply the wax with a buffer? Either your clearcoat broke down from a lack of protection, or someone burned thru it with a polisher.

I thought the same thing but it was by hand. My guess is the clear coat just went regardless of any efforts. A lot more driving in the past couple months with no regular attention like I used to when I lived at a place with a driveway.

Its been washed and waxed a couple times this year though so I’m at a loss.

Its 3 years old and was used the day I sat in it. Its been hit and run twice, had the mirror stolen and dinged God knows how many times.

But these are just so ugly its all I see.

I’m not concerned about resale, it’ll either go to my brother or be stripped down and autocrossed. I tend to take care of my expensive things and when theres a blemish it drives me up a wall.

Have you been using those high pressure wand type washes?

No. This time was a hand wash service, precious was a touch free and before that was me hand washing.

There are so many chips in the front I wouldn’t be surprised if the coat just couldn’t take the abuse and wiping the area just took weak sections off...if that’s a thing.

Ok, was just curious. I’ve seen those high pressure wands hit the edges of rock chips, and peel up the paint. Usually the edges of the clear are straighter afterwards, than in your picture. Sounds like it may just be a poor quality clearcoat. Also red cars tend to have clearcoat problems sooner than other colors.

I get that, I have put way too much work into my daily and it was a relatively cheap car to buy. It’s mechanically perfect but I don’t worry as much about how it looks is all.

Still, mine is 12 years old and in Wisconsin so it’s expected to look like it does!
